Back in the early 1990s I was writing technical documentation for Panasonic Corp. outside of Chicago (USA). I took an opportunity to be seconded to McDonald's corporate headquarters for over a year to manage a system testing programme, as a consultant. At the time, I had no idea that my career path had just taken a big pivot. I wasn't even sure what "being a consultant" really meant, but I knew the system and how to plan and run a test team.
I was fortunate to work with an experienced consultant the project, who recruited me into his company when our McDonald's project was finished - my entry-level salary took almost a 50% jump that day. I decided at that moment that I really liked consulting!
But in truth, it wasn't all about money. It was the variety of projects, technologies, clients, and people that I really enjoyed. Since that time, I have gained 25 further years of experience as a business consultant and managing consulting teams. I have served as a trusted advisor in core business operations strategy for well over 100 of the largest global legal and professional services firms, working on-site in 17 countries, and relocating to the UK. In this time, I have learned from my mistakes and my wins, and figured out strategies that make projects more successful, with less risk of failure for the consultant and the client.
A long-standing mission to help consultants achieve greater success, with less stress, has led me to create The Consultant Mentor so I can completely focus on helping consultants realise their potential. How can I help you succeed?
